Our Love Story


Clifton and Layla's paths first crossed in Philadelphia PA in 2005, thanks to a mutual friend, Kendra “Tay-Tay” Battle. Layla had booked a haircut for her son Steven Jr. with Mr. Lockwood while focused on completing her CDL training. What was supposed to be a routine appointment quickly turned into something more Clifton's charm, professionalism, and striking good looks left a lasting impression.

Our casual conversation soon revealed shared values, ambition, and a bold vision for the future. Clifton spoke about relocating to Charlotte NC to expand my Barber Artistry, and with Layla’s adventurous spirit and newly earned CDL license, we were ready to take a leap of faith and build something new together.

Through life’s ups and downs including raising six children, two beautiful children together, marrying in 2013, and later going our separate ways, our connection only deepened. Time, growth, and healing allowed us to face our childhood trauma and rediscover the love that never truly left our hearts. With forgiveness and maturity, we chose each other again this time with even greater purpose.


Clifton surprised Layla with a heartfelt proposal surrounded by both sides of the family during a cruise to Jamaica. It was a full circle moment a celebration of redemption, renewal, and real love. Now, we're more excited than ever to show our children what love truly looks like and to continue building the Lockwood legacy stronger, wiser, and deeply rooted in love and trust.

Your timely response is greatly appreciated as we finalize arrangements for our special day. Due to venue capacity limitations, we kindly request adherence to the following RSVP guidelines:

  • RSVP deadline: July 29, 2025
  • Each invited guest must RSVP individually
  • Please provide full name, phone number, and Shipping address
  • No additional guests beyond those specifically invited
  • Prompt notification if you become unable to attend

If you are unable to attend in person, please notify our wedding coordinator immediately to avoid confusion and unnecessary expenses. We appreciate your understanding as we work to create a memorable experience for everyone.

Airport Arrival

For guests flying in, Charlotte Airport (CLT) is the nearest major airport. Upon arrival, complimentary shuttles will be available to transport you directly to the designated hotel.

Wedding Day Transportation

Shuttles will transport guests between the hotel and the Crystal Ballroom Charlotte on the wedding day. Service begins at 4:00 PM and continues throughout the evening 9:00 PM Please call shuttle in advance to schedule pick up to transport back to hotel

Dress Code: Formal Black Tie

Gentlemen

A classic black tuxedo with a black tie or bow tie or Formal black suite with dress shoes, a formal white or black shirt is required, and optional accessories such as cufflinks and a pocket square are recommended to complete your sophisticated look.

Ladies

A formal black floor-length gown or cocktail dress is required. Elegant black heels and refined jewelry will complement the formal atmosphere. Consider classic styling with sophisticated accessories for this black-tie celebration. (bring slides )
